What a difference a year makes.
It was the day after Christmas 2007. We drove back upstate in the very early morning after spending the night in Long Island, celebrating the holiday with family. We had an 8am appointment, and after being up late the night before, we were pretty bleary-eyed. At least Rob had the benefit of coffee. So you could hardly blame me for the following exchange during the ultrasound:
After warning us that we may not find out the sex at this visit, the ultrasound tech places magic wand against my pregnant belly, only to have the definitive proof immediately stare her in the face.Ultrasound Tech: Well now. There's a penis, there's a scrotum.
Me:
(sleepily) What does that mean?
Ultrasound Tech: Typically that means your going to have a boy, honey.
Rob:
(patting his addled wife's hand) Go back to sleep, dear.
From that moment, it was all Alejandro, all the time. We knew his name three years before he was conceived.
When I think back to what life was like a year ago, I must again say how right my friends were. Nothing could have prepared us for the changes, but we wouldn't have it any other way.
Happy Holidays, Alejandro. I hope you're as happy with us as we are with you.
There are many, many new photos on Alejandro's Shutterfly site. As usual, use his initials (all caps) for the password.
